Donald Trump’s religious advisor, Tony Perkins, welcomed the decision to overthrow an American ambassador who condemned an anti-gay law in Zambia.

Tony Perkins, who sits on the US Commission on International Religious Freedom, spoke after the recall of the US ambassador to Zambia, Daniel Foote.

Foote angered Zambian President Edgar Lungu by saying that he was “personally horrified” by the imprisonment of two homosexuals for a consensual relationship “that did no harm to anyone”.

The ambassador was recalled after the Lungu said that his government would no longer work with Foote in any capacity.

The Trump administration has publicly stated that it is “appalled” by Zambia’s decision to force Foote.

However, in a blog post, Perkins welcomed the ambassador’s release, who he said “insulted LGBT politicians and the country’s justice system”.

US Religious Freedom Commissioner Tony Perkins: Stop Imposing an “LGBT Program”.

Perkins wrote: “Recalling Foote is the right decision when he has broken trust with his hosts and can no longer effectively serve as a representative abroad.

“It should also serve as an indicator of how we will act elsewhere. America respects everyone, but it will not promote values that do not correspond to what this president represents. “

Perkins noted the calls by evangelical anti-LGBT + activists “for the White House to stop using the State Department to impose its LGBT program on other countries.”

Councilor Trump has a long anti-LGBT + track record.

In addition to being the U.S. Ambassador for Religious Freedom and Trump’s religious advisor, Perkins also heads the Family Research Council, an anti-LGBT + lobbying group.

A frequent partner of Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence, Perkins is said to have contributed to a White House political document advocating a ban on transgendered military personnel.

His close ties to the Republican administration come despite his many extremely disturbing statements about homosexuals in the past, insisting that Christians “will find themselves loaded into cattle cars as it was when the Nazis took over before realizing that we are in such a terrible danger. “

Perkins also compared homosexuals to pedophiles, stating, “While activists like to claim that pedophilia is a completely separate orientation from homosexuality, the evidence shows a disproportionate overlap between the two. It’s a homosexual problem. “
